Jakarta. Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti on Monday (12/02) ridiculed her subordinates for not benefiting from the ministry’s regular business and investment forums and urged them to come up with more creative business ideas.

Speaking at "The Role of Logistics Services in Supporting the Development of National Fisheries Industry" forum, the minister said that business and investment events often held by her subordinates were ineffective at attracting investors to the marine and fisheries sector.

Susi said that Monday's forum, which was attended by the ministry’s stakeholders ranging from businesses, banks and state-owned companies, resembled a discussion forum more so than a business forum.

"I want this to be a business meeting ... I see this forum now just as a focus group discussion, not even an investment and business forum," Susi stressed in front of at least 200 participants at ministry headquarters in Jakarta.

She hopes that her subordinates will be able to create new opportunities as opposed to rolling out more regulations, especially when the government is able to fund related economic projects.

According to Susi, the ministry this year obtained a budget of Rp 7 trillion ($490 million) to support creative economic and business ideas for the marine and fishery sector.
